Dimpled Balls
Luciano Dasilva, sophomore at University Of Oregon recently joined the golf club here on campus. Whenever there’s a sunny day in Eugene, Luciano tries his best to get on the Laurelwood Golf Course and practice in preparation for his upcoming season.
Before taking his shot at the golf ball, Dasilva first takes a few practice swings to loosen up. With the hole standing aout 153 yards away, Luciano decides to use his 9 iron. He begins his swing by winding the club back behind his head, then swinging through using his entire body.
Dasilva began learning how to swing a golf club at the age of 15 with his father. Every weekend, they would attend the range and he would practice swinging each club. In golf, the goal is to complete each hole with the least amount of shots possible. To do so, it is important to understand each club’s purpose.
Since the first day Dasilva picked up a golf club, his passion for the sport continued to grow. “Golf is a beautiful art because there’s always room for improvement. The feeling I get when I hit a good shot is so satisfying that it makes me crave more,” Dasilva says.
Putting is a very intricate part of the game. Even the slightest miss hits can worsen your score. On the green, Dasilva prepares for a 15 foot left to right put. In order to put the ball close, he knows he will need to hit the ball firmer than usual.
