How Alex Cooper went from sex talk to sixty million.
Two years ago, Alex Cooper was a twenty-something podcaster speaking about sex tips, stories, and NSFW details. Now, Cooper has rebranded herself into an inquisitive podcaster curious about the complexities of pop culture, womanhood and mental health.
The beginning of the rebrand came in the Summer of 2021, when Spotify offered Cooper 60 million dollars, an exclusive deal that would pull her from Barstool Sports and place her with Spotify— the world's leading streaming service. Not only was there a shift of platform, but a shift of content as well.
When speaking about her brand transformation, Cooper acknowledges that younger generations like Millennials and Generation Z have very short attention spans. In an interview with The New York Times, Cooper stated, “In order for ‘Call Her Daddy’ to be consumable to the younger generation, it needs to be quick and snappy. It’s in your face. It’s clickbait-y.” Being a part of the generation she targets has been very beneficial to Call Her Daddy’s rebranding. She is able to know what her viewers want to see and give it to them.
In a recent interview with New York Times, Cooper addressed her transition in topics. Entering the big leagues of podcasts, Cooper knew sex talk would no longer fully cut it. With a larger target audience at hand and eager to become the best, Cooper reflected on other things going on in her life and started shining a light on those conversations. Every Wednesday, the podcast host invites a new guest to deep dive into mental health and other revolving issues. To name a few…Hailey Bieber, Miley Cyrus, and Demi Lovato. And Cooper's recent episode features neuropsychologist Doctor Judy Ho where she challenges her listeners to stop self-sabotage. Get you a girl who can do both.
In addition, Cooper also added recent questions of the week segment allowing podcast fans to send in their struggles and receive feedback on coping mechanisms. This segment has allowed Call Her Daddy fans to connect with Cooper— like a pseudo-older sister giving you advice. She talks about the complexities and celebrations of womanhood whilst being your own personal hype woman right through your Airpods.
Alex Cooper rebranded not only Call Her Daddy, but also her reputation, content and focus. Cooper explains that her goal is to amplify the conversations that only happen behind closed doors and reclaim your power. She isn’t shying away from serious topics. By talking about abortion, stress, anxiety and more, she is encouraging these conversations and fostering an environment for them to continue. Cooper keeps her audience engaged by consistently breaking the stigma around these topics all while staying true to her #girlboss name— Call Her Daddy.
Calling her daddy is an interesting concept, I generally experience the opposite... (heh 😎, iykyk (if you know you know))
I did not read this article as I feel the content (loosely, sex) is a little inappropriate. I was reading your page with my 9-month-old son, funny enough, he actually said his first words while reading your article (he is a very intellectually advanced baby, capable of reading at speeds that far surpass developed human minds)
Do you want to know what those words were? "This article is smut" I hope discretion, and thoughtful consideration one day become aspects of your content creation process. Now I have to explain to him how and why Alex Cooper is "daddy", a conversation…
