Growing up, I have always been fascinated by the royal bloodline and monarchs. I would watch movies about the monarchs who once accompanied these lovely castles until the sun came up. Finally I am able to say that I have stepped foot in one.
Hampton Court Palace- Becoming Royalty for a Day.
The Hampton Court Palace was a royal residence for over 200 years. The Palace belonged to Henry VIII who lived here accompanied by his six different wives. The palace is rich with history and cool ancient rooms where the King and his wives once lived. My favorite part of the Palace was its unique interior. As you go through the rooms, you will notice beautiful wood carvings over fireplaces and along walls. The rooms also would often have many beautiful paintings throughout.
The Beautiful Gardens- Get lost in the maze
Surrounding the beautiful palace, you will find lovely gardens filled with vibrant flowers. When looking around, I liked to imagine the young children of Henry VIII playing in these gardens. Here you can join friends and have a picnic in the grass as well as just walk along the paths. Keep an eye out for the great vine when walking around. It is to this day the world's largest grape vine.
The Chapel Royal - The beautiful ceilings
Of the entire palace, my favorite room is definitely the Chapel Royal. This enormous chapel’s ceilings are filled with beautiful architecture. The floor of this room is filled with lovely pews and an altar. In the Royal pew of the chapel, you can find Henry VIII’s beautiful crown filled with colorful jewels. The chapel is full of rich history and is where Henry VIII would worship. On sunday’s the Chapel is open for church to all.
The Hampton Court Palace is home to some of England’s oldest history. By visiting, you will not only learn the stories of the monarchs who once occupied the castle, but can also see the true beauty and architecture of the Castle. The next time you travel to the United Kingdom, be sure to visit the Palace!
